Even though Mya seems happy on the outside, she often has deep conversations with herself inside. She watched her mother die which has had a huge impact on her life. Mya is always in fear of her own death. Because of her power, when she inhabits another being's body, leaving hers behind, if her body goes unprotected there is a high risk that someone could come along and kill her. If someone were to physically murder her body, she wouldn't be able to return to her world. She herself would become a spirit. Mya is strong willed, but in the face of danger she can have a bit of a weak side.
Everything has to come to an end...or does it?
Mya is a fighter. Once she is pushed far enough she has the heart of a tiger and the rage of a fire, which is probably a reason why she resembles a fire so much. Mya has strong fighting skills. She is very fast, agile, and flexible. Whenever Mya finds herself in trouble, she is often scared at first. But with words of encouragement from herself, and from her mother's past sayings, she can pull herself out of the deep trench to fight for all that she knows. Mya won't be put down without a fight. Past:
When Mya was born, her parents could tell that she would be a challenge. Her eyes were a pale red, not the crimson red they are now. By the time she was able to walk and wear contacts, her parents ordered special blue contacts for her to wear so she would look normal. Mya was three when her family realized that she had a spiritual gift. Her mother & father had the same gift, making hers even stronger. But her brother had elemental, which was still just a great as any other power. Mya older brother Troy was always getting into trouble. He would try and start a fire whenever he had the chance. But no matter how many times he was scolded, he continued to do so. It was because of his power the family had to keep moving from city to city. Finally their parents decided that it was best if he went to live with their grandmother, who was an elemental herself. She would be able to teach him right from wrong, plus Mya's parents didn't want her to follow in Troy's footsteps.
When Mya was eleven her parents allowed her to try out her power for the first time. Their next door neighbor, a grouch at heart, has been quite grumpy for a few weeks and had been treating everyone with disrespect. Mya's parents allowed her to use their neighbor as her first experiment. Once Mya had taken over his form she had him run around the block twice in a bathing suit. Of course everyone saw this and he was the talk of the town. But it gave the man a taste of his own medicine. Her parents used this as a lesson on what can happen if you misuse your power, and it worked. Mya never used her power like that again, all though she was always tempted to do so.
When Mya was sixteen, being home schooled, many of her older family members would tease her. One cousin in particular, Marie, had the power to heal. She would always give herself a paper cut and then heal herself to show off. Mya was never allowed to do such things because of the "inhumanity" of it as Marie's mother always said. Mya, her mother and father, were the only ones with the spiritual gift. And at times, when Mya would cry, her parents would just say they were jealous. One day Marie was being more of a show off than usually. Mya was so bothered by this that she began thinking about controlling Marie and injuring her to see if then she could heal herself. But her mother could see the stress on Mya's face and was able to prevent Mya from going to far.
When Mya was eighteen, her mother died. Her mom had been being hunted down by a night crawler that she had met ten years before. The vampire had taken a great interest in her mother's power, and believed that if he turned her she would be extremely powerful. But it wasn't possible. When he found out about Mya and her father, he took an even greater interest in the Moon family. McKenzie decided that the only way to get rid of the Night Crawler was to do it herself. So she hunted down the man, and when she found him, she inhabited his body. But McKenzie's power wasn't at a level that could sustain a vampire. She could feel his thirst as if it were her own and it drove her mad. And so she returned to her body and went on to kill the vampire, but not before he could deal her a deadly blow to the heart. Her mother's death left Mya devastated for months. She had therapy, but it took two years for her to accept the fact that her mother was dead.
Sample Post:
The beach. The roaring waters of the ocean water and the hot sun that beat down on my skin was enough to satisfy one's soul. It burned, but the burning was all I wanted to feel. But there, in the distance were the "oohs" and "ahhs" of my family. My little cousins ran around screaming at the sight of Marie's finger bubbling with blood, and then healing up again. My mother sat behind me, braiding my hair into tight French braids. But her smooth fingers running through my hair, and her soft voice weren't enough to suppress my undying hatred for that show off. I opened my eyes, and they were set in a glare at the girl sitting on a blue blanket at the water's cliff's edge. There everyone sat, in a circle around Marie, like her audience as she was about to perform a magic trick. It was magic, but I had seen it all before, we all had, and yet it still amazed even the elders. I sighed, grinding my teeth and looking down at my dog that rested his head on my lap. I rubbed his soft ears and a soft mumbling escaped his lips. I laughed softly, before glancing back at my family. Big whoop! So Marie could heal herself and others. I could control people, anyone! But I never get to show anyone my powers. And I am good at controlling it and never using them for the wrong thing.
"Mom, this isn't at all fair!" I said looking into my mother's grey eyes.
"I know Mya, I know. But I am not Marie's mother. As much as I hate how Marie's parents allow her to use her powers however she wishes, even if they can save a life, I can't do anything about it." I cursed under my breath. No matter how hard I tried to focus on something other than Marie, it would always seem like she would do something better to catch my attention. When I looked back at her, this time she did something worse. Something that had my mother gasp, and finally had Marie's mother grasping her hands firmly and scolding her. She drew a piece of broken glass from the sand and pulled it down her leg. At first nothing happened, but then blood pulsed toward the surface of her skin. Her mother yelped, just as she healed herself. Marie smiled triumphantly as everyone clapped in enjoyment. But my mother and I were furious. I could feel her chest tighten, but even greater I could feel the blood rush to my face, turning it red with rage. I began thinking about taking control of her and making her jump off a cliff. See if she can heal herself when all of her bones are broken! Just as I was about to leave my body, my mother wrapped her arms around me firmly, bending her head down to my ear.
"Don't Mya, it's not worth it..." It's not worth it...It's not worth it. Those words ran through my head for the rest of the night. Would it have been worth it? Or would it have been a waste of a perfectly good power?
