How could one person be so tired? Not that he had expected the job to easy but it was exhausting. He had always been fit, or assumed he was, but not it seemed to be wearing down on him terribly. Ever since the war and River’s death the shifters had fallen apart; James having to slowly pick up the pieces. The whole shifter village had been redone and it was finally done. He had been over seeing it for the past few months helping out when other duties weren’t nagging at him. Although he did feel guilty about leaving Enye and the twins here alone; it seemed to happen a lot recently. But thankfully most of the larger projects were completed and now less important ones remained. This would give him far more time with his family; something he desperately wanted.
James rolled over groaning slightly when sleep seemed to be slipping away. Enye was out of the bed meaning she was probably in the kitchen or in the living room. Those were the normal places to find her in the mornings although a rather, tempting, scent seemed to lingering in her spot in the bed. She was in heat…again. Dammit. It seemed very often; or far more since they had met. It wasn’t that he wasn’t attracted to her, quite the opposite, which tended to be the problem. It smelled quite strongly too. How wonderful. James pulled the blanket over his head and laid under there for a few moments before he finally drug himself out of bed grumbling while rubbing his eyes.
He walked down the hall first going into the bathroom and splashing some cold water onto his face hoping to wake himself up some. James hadn’t really even said hello to Enye or the boy in the past few days. He normally arrived home long after they were in bed and left before they were up. He truly did feel guilty but this wasn’t a job he could just up and quit. He was tempted to just curl back up in bed and sleep for the rest of the day but he didn’t seem to be able to. His mind was so busy!
James walked into the kitchen feeling sleepy that he was tempted to grab coffee or something with caffeine possibly depending on what was easiest. It also seemed to be where Enye was. He yawned and stretched listening to his back crack when he did so before he walked over to her and kissed her passionately. He had missed her terribly since he had been gone. If he didn’t trust her as much as he did he would have said she would have moved onto someone else. But he doubted the woman would do that really.
It had been three years since they had first met. Or he first rescued her. Although he had heard that vampire had died almost two years ago; good riddance. The twins still hadn’t shifted for the first time; or as far as he had known. It wasn’t strange for shifters to shift for the first time at any time in their third year. He had shifted only a few days before his fourth birthday from what his family said. Though they had been less then pleased about his color. Something his brothers tended to tease him about. But he hadn’t seen them in almost three years. He hadn’t said one word about Enye or the twins when his mother called every few months. He had little want to see them much less for them to show up. Another reason he never said where he lived. Not that they wouldn’t like to know, or wouldn’t like Enye, but he hardly wanted them in his life anymore.
James continued to kiss her, wrapping his arms around her waist to pull her to him, planting kisses across her shoulder softly. ”I missed you”
