In Character
Name: Jyoti Chitra Luken
Age: 21
Gender: female
Species: The Gifted
Special Power: Elemental
Father: Satu Luken
Mother: Jesarai Zilar
Sibling/s: Megan Satiri Zilar, Samira Mishti Luken, Daxan Prajit Luken
Partner: none
Appearance:(at least two nicely sized paragraphs) Jyoti's proudest feature is her hair. It is thick and the color of fire itself, and falls in gentle waves to her waist. It is cut straight across, with no styling of any sort. She almost always keeps it down, but she occasionally braids it, if she needs it out of her face. She has a smooth, slightly angular face, and green eyes. Jyoti often curses her eyes, since they are clear windows to her thoughts. Anything she thinks or feels is reflected in them. She also considers them boring, since they are a very plain sage green.
In general, Jyoti is very pretty. Jyoti has a tall, willowy figure. She is muscular and strong, but it is lean muscle. Her smooth skin has an even, porcelain tone, and she cannot tan at all. She has a small, flame-shaped birthmark on her upper arm on the right side. She loves wearing loose, soft, comfortable clothing. She especially likes low-cut tops with bell sleeves, and "swishy pants".
Animal Form and Appearance:(if Shape Shifter, make sure the animal is not already taken)

Personality: Jyoti is a girl of contradictions. She is friendly and kind, yet opinionated and tempermental. When confronted with anger or injustice, she is quick to react. She does not do cool, hurtful anger. When Jyoti is angry, she yells and shouts and calls people names, but she is over it just as fast. In general, she is a kind, sweet girl, but impulsive and fickle.
Yet she is not unpredictable, for those who know her well, she is just predictably inconsistent. She is insecure, indecisive, and uncertain of her place in the world. One moment she will be madly in love, the next, she will hate the person. She doesn’t know who she is, so she ends up being everything and nothing. She is gives her heart away too quickly, and takes it back just as fast.
Jyoti loves people. She is a social person, and is quick to swear “best friends forever”. She does not often get hurt by this, however, since she is usually the one to change her mind. She does not know who she is supposed to be, and she feels like she should know by now.
Strengths: Makes friends easily, very good at singing and dancing, especially talented with the elements of Fire and Wind, sweet, friendly, and generally means well
Weaknesses: Falls in love too easily, indecisive, somewhat insecure, reacts without thinking, extremely inconsistent, not as good with Water and Earth
Mental Health:slightly unstable
Likes: people, having fun, dancing, singing, music, being in love
Dislikes: her father, criticism, being told what to do, dirt
Past: Satu Luken was a young, power-hungry, Gifted Elemental, looking to make a place for himself in the world. When he was still quite young, he fell in love with another Gifted Elemental, a beautiful young woman by the name of Jeserai Zilar. She did not share his ambition, or desire for power, but he loved her anyway. It was not long before Jeserai discovered she was pregnant. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, whom they named Dax. Satu immediately began training Dax to want the same power, to pursue the same goals. Two years later, Jeserai was pregnant again. Satu prayed for another son, but instead they got Jyoti. Satu was away at the time, and missed his daughter’s birth.
Only a year after Jyoti was born, Jeserai found a baby abandoned in the forest. She knew Satu would never let her keep the little girl, but she had already fallen in love with the baby. She pretended that the baby was Jyoti’s twin, and told Satu she had been afraid he would be angry with her if he knew she had given birth to twin girls. He felt bad that she was so scared of him, and allowed her to bring Jyoti’s “twin” home. Jeserai named the girl Samira. When Samira was 3, Jyoti discovered she was a shape shifter, and she and Jeserai helped Samira hide her gift from Satu.
The four of them lived happily for many years. Jeserai was a beautiful woman, but quite poor. She was virtually unknown in the Gifted community, but Satu swallowed his ambition, knowing that soon the children would be old enough that he could leave her and pursue his desire for power. Then, Jeserai found out that she was pregnant again. Satu was furious. She had ruined all his plans, and he kicked her and the baby out. He kept the other three children with him and raised them himself. Jeserai raised Megan on her own, and died when Megan was only about 10.
At the ages of 15 and 14, Jyoti and Samira left home to live on their own, as they were sick of their father’s oppressive rule. Dax had an ambitious nature and chose to stay with his father, however he helped his sisters escape, since he truly loved them more than power.
Sample Post: Voices echoed in the background, bouncing off the damp stones, but Jyoti didn't notice. All she could think about was the pain in her arm, stabbing like millions of knives. “But Daaadddd!” Jyoti cried, her sage green eyes met his, begging, pleading. She knew it would do no good, but she had to try.
“No!” Satu snapped, his eyes sparking with rage as he glared at his eldest daughter. He shook his wet, dark hair out of his eyes, water droplets splashing down his face, making it glisten. “You are my daughter and you will do as I say! No buts!”
“Dad…” Jyoti knew she was risking a beating by pressing it, but the thought of lifting the heavy wooden water bucket all the way out of the well, then carrying it half a mile home was unbearable. "I can't! My arm hurts so bad..." she sobbed, tears streaming down her face.
“Toughen up! No child of mine will be raised a wimp, and I will not tolerate your defiance! Fetch my belt. NOW!” He bellowed the last bit, seething with rage. Jyoti ran to fetch the strong, leather belt, knowing she had brought this on herself… Samira was in the house with her ear pressed against the wall. She had obviously been listening. Jyoti ran to her and buried her tear-stained face in her sister's shoulder.
"Shh, shh," Samira soothed softly, stroking Jyoti's fiery hair. She stood there and held her, letting her cry. "You'd better get back before he comes looking for you. I'll make the salve Mum taught me, and I'll have it ready for you, and I'll get Dax to fetch the water. And Jyoti?" Samira's small hand gently lifted her sister's chin, so Jyoti's green eyes met Samira's deep blue ones. "You will be okay. I promise."
Jyoti nodded, taking strength from her sister's gaze. She took a shaky breath and fetched the belt.
~That Night~
“Jyoti! It’s time to go!” Samira’s soft whisper drifted through the darkness, awakening Jyoti from a light, fitful sleep. She instantly rolled over and hissed, biting her tongue to keep from crying in pain as she rolled on her back, the pressure against the wounds from her beating making her eyes tear up. She sat up quickly, swallowing the pain, and put her bare feet to the cold floor. A moment later she felt a warm, furry head under her palm, guiding her through the dark. She smiled, recognizing the feel of her Shapeshifter sister’s fur.
“Thanks, Samira,” she whispered, but her sister only shushed her, as they snuck out the door, toward their freedom. They had been planning this night for some time. Planning to run away, to escape the beatings, the ridicule, the criticism. They were finally ready, and this night would change the rest of their lives.
