In Character
Name: Mercer
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Species: Shape Shifter
Father: Cassian
Mother: Nicala
Sibling/s: (adoptive) Mercer
Partner: None
Appearance: Like many males in the pack, Kalem is in excellent shape. He has broad, well muscled shoulders and arms, as well as sculpted abdominals and an overall athletic build that is a result of frequent training. Kalem is tall (about 6'1"), and despite his bulk, moves with fluidity, managing to seem at ease no matter what he is doing. Despite his appearance and thanks to Shifter genes, he looks a good ten years younger than he actually is.
Kalem's hair is a dark brown, lighter towards the tips, and he never lets it grow very long. His eyes are a rich, smooth gray which radiate sincerity, yet mask his deepest thoughts. Kalem tends to be modest in appearance and attire, though he has no qualms with being in the nude around those of his own kind. He has a deep, smoke and velvet voice. A thin, pale scar runs diagonally acorss his right side from an incident during his first hunting expedition as a young wolf.
Animal Form and Appearance: Timber Wolf

Personality: Kalem's most dominant trait is his amiable, easy way with people; he is very social and never has a problem making friends. It helps that he is a complete and total gentleman, very chivalrous with a magnetic personality. He comes off as being genuinely interested, like he truely cares what folks have to say, instead of just smiling and nodding. He is an others-oriented man and will usually keep the subject of conversation on the person he is speaking with or something they wish to discuss since he doesn’t like to talk about himself. He can analyze a situation and give intelligent, objective advice that his friends come back for time and time again.
The other most apparent trait in Kalem's personality is his passive confidence; he dislikes giving the impression of arrogance. (Though he has a secret courageous streak and enjoys playing “the hero” if the need arises.) Kalem is level-headed and his temper can stretch for miles, and Mercer is annoyingly good at stretching it until it snaps. Kalem is a hard worker, responsible, and always sees projects through to completion. He takes delight in solving problems. With a naturally calming presence, he can take charge of an out-of-control situation without being terribly bossy or loud.
Along with being chivalrous, he is extremely moral with a set of personal values that might as well be set in stone. If he makes a promise, he will always keep it, going to almost any length to do so. He is quietly opinionated and not easily swayed by anyone but his close friends. In relationships Kalem is reserved with the physical aspect at first, but is very charming otherwise and has no problem keeping up his end of a conversation or heated debate. K'lem can also be extremely romantic if given the chance. Mercer has a knack from drawing out his less conservative side. After spending many years basically raising Mercer, Kalem has become quite good at reading people, espcially younger people.
Strengths: Kalem is the type to turn the other cheek when in a confrontation. "Speak softly and carry a big stick" is his motto. He intensely protective of loved ones and stands behind his friends through thick and thin, supporting them as best he can, or even putting his life on the line for them.
Weaknesses: Kalem often finds himself coming to the aid of those less fortunate, which sometimes gets him into trouble. He also can't stand to see any woman being treated like anything less than an equal. Sometimes he is indecisive or takes an exeptionally long time to open up to others, which may drive them away.
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Mental Health: Stable
Likes: Looking at beautiful things in nature and taking mental snapshots of them, like a stunning sunset or a unique cloud formation. Appreciates all kinds of art and music, though is no good at either himself. Rain also makes him very happy for some reason.
Dislikes: Lazy people. Kalem believes that there's no excuse for being slothful and not lending a hand. Oddly, while he likes rain, being fully engulfed in water bothers him immensely. He dislikes swimming unless the water is very warm or he is in a particular mood to do so. Hates Crawlers.
Mannerisms: He often rubs his temples when he's frustrated and trying to concentrate, and may smack his forehead with a palm if Mercer does something embarrassing in his general vicinity. Avoid eye contact when lying, seeing as he would rather not be dishonest if he can help it.
Points of Interest: Kalem is a very quick healer and can handle a lot of alcohol before succuming to the effects. He knows how to hunt and track better than the average wolf and can fist fight with the best of them, though he prefers to avoid situation which would call on that skill.
Past: Born to Nicala and Cassian, Kalem was like any Shifter youngling, happy and excited to learn the ways of the pack. His parents were both traditional in their habits, not much interested in the other Species in any way besides keeping them out of the pack's territory. His father was a Coyote and mother a Vixen, a warrior and scout respectively. They raised him conservatively, but made sure to instill a streak of chivalry and confidence in him that still stand proudly.
When he was seven, Kalem was out with his father learning to hunt deer on in the early morning. Much to their dismay, the patriarch of the herd hadn't taken a liking to his females being paoched and charged young Kalem, leaved a bloody laceration along his side from its sharp antlers. Bad luck compounding further, a rogue Night Crawler caught scent of the blood and stalked the pair to the river where they planned to clean the wound. Kalem's father told him to run just as the vampire burst from the underbrush, and he did very reluctantly, looking back only once to catch sight of the creature sinking its fangs into his father's flesh.
After that incident, Kalem resolved to never run from a problem again. He threw himself vigorously into his training, determined to be the best fighter the pack had seen since the last decade. One evening when he was doing some simple scouting and happened upon a child laying in the snow curled up against his dead mother's body, keeping warm from the last dregs of her body heat. His heart immediately went out to this infant, protective instints demanding action.
"Mom! Let's keep him," he had said to Nicala. "I found him and I want to help raise him." Nicala conceded to this and aided in keeping the boy alive during the first few months. Then Kalem almost completely took over, evening named the boy Mercer after his grandfather. He was patient and calm beyond his years, teaching the youngling like Cassian had taught him. Brotherly instincts at work, they bonded and grew close, almost as close as he had been with his father.
Much to his dismay, into his teenage years Mercer became very curious of the other species and meandered off to go live in the City Center, to explore and learn. Kalem visits often, avoiding Crawlers whenever possible, and usually tries to persuade his adoptive brother to come live among the pack again every time he goes there.
