Mya watched the sky from her window fade to black. The stars twinkled softly, but not as bright as they normally did. She looked down at the street that one was bustling with people as they raced across the street to the Blue Bird Theatre to see Shakespeare’s “ Macbeth”. She loved that play and even though she had seen it four times, it still amazed her that someone could create such a powerful piece of work. But that had been a long time ago, when she was eleven. She sighed, wishing she could do something that impressive. Lately she had been feeling unhelpful. She felt like there wasn’t much for her to do. Well there was one problem; she was looking to help in a world not of her own. Oh well, not much she could about that. Or could she?
Suddenly a thought crept into her mind. She realized that there was a bunch of things she could do. Her eyes widened as she realized that the Gifted still were without a leader. At least she hadn’t heard of a new leader rising to the job. Mya thought long and hard about this matter. She had made herself three pots of tea, a batch of chocolate chip cookies, and straightened up her apartment by the time she had made her decision. She was going to try and become the leader of the Gifted. Mya had always wanted to be a leader of something. Not for the glory and the respect she would get. She already had respect. But she wanted to be a bigger help, to everyone. Mya wanted to help those who needed it, to encourage those who were down, and to make life as simple as she possibly could. She knew it would be hard, but, life was full of obstacles and opportunities. When one door closes another opens. And Mya had decided that she had walked passed too many open doors in her life, she wasn’t going to make that mistake again.
She had a goal, and she was going to fulfill it. She felt proud of herself. Her oldest goal was to become the leader of the Gifted. She wanted her people to look up to her, to see that together they could be a stronger bloodline, that with courage they could do anything. Plus, Mya wasn’t getting any younger, and she didn’t suspect she was going to start a family any time soon, no one took an interest in her, at least not as far as she could tell. She just knew that she had one big family waiting for her, right before her eyes. They needed caring for and kind words to keep their heads up, didn’t they? It was all up to Mya now. She couldn’t back out, she didn’t want to. And somewhere, she knew that her mother was cheering her on, she could feel it in her heart. Whether it was her gift speaking to her mother or her mind playing tricks on her, her mother’s voice shouted, “I am so proud of you!” Mya was laying on the couch when she sat up, and leapt over the back of the couch to race to the telephone to call her father and brother.

Explanation: I believe that Mya is an ideal person for the job of the Gifted leader because she is responsible, caring, encouraging, intelligent, and brave. Mya is always out to help people and to inspire them to do their best no matter what. Mya believes that if everyone works together, they can achieve a true community and show the world what they are really made of, which is pure of heart. Mya is hard working and is always striding to do whatever she can to help improve the community. Mya would be a great leader for the Gifted because she is very dependable and has the heart of a true born leader.
